Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to develop new methods to enhance the resolution of images obtained from seismic studies used in oil exploration activities. Such images were obtained based on concepts from the complex systems physics combined with new tools used for signal analysis within the time-frequency domain. These tools represent the state of the art of signal processing. The most relevant breakthrough of this paper was discovering that the deconvolution of seismic data is essentially an analysis of fluctuations in the sense of statistical physics. As a result from this discovery efficient methods have been derived and presented herein. Among those methods WTDecon can be highlighted. It is a deconvolution method that allows the interpreter to visualize imperceptible details using other methods, thus providing excellent recovery of high frequencies.
