Multivariate data analysis: an efficient tool in reservoir description and characterization
Abstract
Hydrocarbon fields, especially those in a late phase of development, make available a large quantity of data in the from of logs, DSTs, core samples, well cutting descriptions, and production records. A major challenge to multidisciplinary groups working with reservoir management is the efficient handling of this remarkable volume of data and the translation of the information into different scales. Because of their multivariate character and the fact that they are subject to random variabilities, such sets of data can be studied using probabilistic models. This approach has been routinely applied in reservoir studies of Potiguar Basin hydrocarbon fields. The present paper offersa brief overview of the technical applications of multivariate data analysis in these studies.
