Pioneers of geophysical prospecting in Brazil (1928 - 1941)

In this work, we present a historical overview of geophysics, addressing both its international evolution and its early stages in Brazil. We highlight the scientific, technological, and institutional contexts that marked its emergence and consolidation as an essential tool in mineral and oil prospecting. Special attention is given to the pioneers of Brazilian geophysics, who, since the 1930s, acted with courage, creativity, and technical competence, even in the face of the technological and logistical limitations of the time. Their contributions laid the foundation for what would become a consolidated field in the country, with a direct impact on the formation of strategic institutions such as the SGMB, DNPM, CNP, and Petrobras. We also emphasize that many of the reports and records produced during this period are not digitally available, making this work not only a scientific contribution but also an effort at historical preservation. By gathering, organizing, and contextualizing this information, we seek to cherish the memory of the early developments of geophysics in Brazil and honor the professionals who led them.
