Abstract

The following work consists in the modeling of thermal evolution of organic matter in three places of the Lusitanian Basin (Portugal). To this end, a descriptive analysis of the main formations in the Lusitanian Basin was done, emphasizing the ones which are more favorable towards the generation of hydrocarbons. The modeling was carried out using IES Schlumberger’s PetroMod, both in 1D and 2D. For the first stage, three wells were modeled, one in the northern sector of the basin and two in the central sector. The 2D models are based on three interpreted seismic lines close to the wells. This study allowed a better understanding of the thermal evolution in the basin and the verification of the existence of two distinct petroleum systems: one in the Lower Jurassic and another in the Upper Jurassic, active in the north and in the central section of the basin, respectively. These systems are sourced by the Lower Source Rocks (Água de Madeiros and Vale das Fontes formations) in the Lower Jurassic and by the Upper Source Rocks (Cabaços/Vale Verde formations) in the Upper Jurassic,  both in the oil generation window.
