Keywords:
Portugal, Petrobras, deep offshore exploration, Peniche Basin, Alentejo BasinAbstract
The search for hydrocarbons in Portugal has been going on for more than a hundred years, with periods of greater activity in the 70s and 80s and from then from 2007 on. To date, Portugal has no production or proven reserve of hydrocarbon and also no production of oil or gas. Despite this, the conditions are favourable with regards to active petroleum systems both onshore and in the deep offshore.
Petrobras has a cooperation history with portuguese universities in the area of geosciences since 2004. From 2007, the company has signed several concession contracts to explore the deep offshore in the Peniche and Alentejo basins.
