This study seeks to identify the stratigraphic signa-ture and sedimentary control in a lacustrine rift basin in the Los Rastros Formation (Carnian), Ischigualasto Sub-basin, Argentina. A stratigraphic framework (se-quence scale) is established for the interval, based on satellite images and outcrop analyses.
Four depositional sequences with similar faciology and stratigraphic architecture have been identified in a 120m thick interval - reflecting successive variations of accommodation creation. Subdivided into system tracts, each sequence initiates with incised valleys fills, represented by braided fluvial channels – sheet sands – at the base (early lowstand system tracts) and meandering fluvial channels associated with floodplain fine-grained lithofacies at the top (late lowstand system tracts).
