BENTHIC FORAMINIFERA AND PALEOECOLOGY OF A TERTIARY SECT!ON IN THE CAMPOS BASIN (WELL 1-RJS-305) SOUTHEASTERN PART OF THE BRAZILIAN CONTINENTAL MARGIN
Abstract
The taxonomic study of benthic foraminifera from a Tertiary section of the Campos Basin, using qualitativa and quantitativa methods, allowed the reconstruction of its paleoenvironmental evolution. This study is a part of a research which attempts to catalogue the benthic foraminifera, which composed the inhabiting fauna of the Campos Basin during the mentioned geological age. The analised section shows, from the base to the top, a progressiva paleobathymetric reduction as it is indicated by the planktonic foraminifera/total fauna curve. The assemblage, although monotone, is diversified and reveals, in general, upper bathial to deep neritic conditions. Relative sea level falls produced several hiatuses registered during Late Paleocene, Early and Middle Eocene, Early Miocene (part) and Early Pliocene times.
